Are you flexible for your start or end times?

Accepted Answer

I prefer to stick to the pre-agreed performance times. I'll usually play on a bit at the end for a few songs or say 'final chance for requests' before I finish to get people a chance to get their favourite song in if they haven't already, but the start time is fixed once we've agreed that.

If you request an extra 30-45 minutes or hour at the end, I can do this for an additional extra charge if I am able to continue playing, but unfortunately high-energy live party music at a high standard has a time limit and sadly does have to finish at some point - with the best will in the world!

Question 2

Can I/we use your mic to make a speech or announcement?

Accepted Answer

Sure that's no problem at all. Just make sure to bring the microphone close to your mouth as most people tend to point it miles away from themselves and can't be heard at all!

If it's something like a raffle or a quiz before the show starts, just give me a bit of notice so I can plan my set-up time to work with your schedule.

Question 3

Can my friend/family member get up and sing with you?

Sure, if we both know the song! I don't mind having a bit of fun sharing the mic and belting out a chorus together! If someone wants to sing a whole song with guitar accompaniment, they do need to know the song or things can go quite downhill fast for the dancefloor! Better to arrange this first beforehand, but if it's arranged on the night and the host agrees, then it's no problem.

If the guest is too drunk then it's not going to be possible as equipment can be knocked over, or someone can slip and hurt themselves or others especially on a sticky or wet dancefloor!

Can my friend/other musician play your guitar?

Accepted Answer

Most musicians prefer not to hand over their instrument to strangers as accidents do happen and our instruments are expensive.

Having said that, if I feel like whoever is asking will treat it with respect while using it and knows how to play, then it's no problem.

Do you take requests?

Definitley, if it's a song I know then i'm happy to play it for you! If it's a very important song to you, please give me plenty of notice before the date to give me a chance to learn it.

How long do you play for?

Usually people want live music for their party for around 2 or 3 hours. I can occasionally play for a little longer with extra breaks - feel free to send me a message if you want to discuss performance times or specific packages.

Question 7

Will you be bringing your own PA?

Accepted Answer

I have all the equipment we'll need for a fantastic night's music. The more space I have to set up, the more I can include things like lighting for the stage or dancefloor, but I know some pubs are small and if it's packed there's probably only room for a small set-up which is fine.

If the venue prefer to use their own sound system, then I have a portable mixing desk which I can plug in and play through.

Ken has over 20 years of experience performing live music. After studying Popular Music Performance in London, he spent several years performing across the UK before touring internationally on luxury cruise ships with Tui and Royal Caribbean.
